Configuring PPPoE on a TP-Link router EN

PPPoE Configuration (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) on TP-Link Router Setting up PPPoE on a TP-Link router is relatively simple. Here are the steps you need to follow to configure the PPPoE connection:


Step 1: Connecting to the Router

Connect your computer to the TP-Link router using an Ethernet cable or connect to the router's wireless network (Wi-Fi).


Step 2: Accessing the Router's Admin Panel

  1. Open a web browser.

  2. Enter the router's IP address in the address bar.

The default IP address for most TP-Link routers is:

If this address does not work:

  • Check the router's documentation.
  • Look at the bottom of the device, where the current IP address might be provided.

Step 3: Logging into the Admin Panel

  1. Enter the username and password for the admin panel.

Default login credentials:

  • If the credentials have been changed, use the current login details.
  • If the router has new firmware, the first step is to create a password.

  • After logging in, locate the section responsible for PPPoE configuration.


Step 4: PPPoE Configuration

Setting up the router using Quick Setup.

  1. Press > NEXT
  2. Select Wireless Router > NEXT
  3. Choose PPPoE from the list > NEXT
  4. Fill in the Username and Password fields with the login data provided > NEXT
  5. Enter the network name (SSID) - any name (this will be the Wi-Fi network name). In the Password field, enter a password to secure the network. > NEXT
  6. The router will save the data.

Manual Configuration

  1. In the admin panel, go to the WAN or Internet section (menu on the left).

  2. Select PPPoE as the connection type.

  3. Enter the ISP data:

  4. Username:

  5. Password:

These details should be provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

  1. If your ISP uses a static IP address:

  2. Enter the IP address in the appropriate fields.

  3. Otherwise, check the option Obtain an IP address automatically.

  4. Save the changes by clicking Save or Apply.


Step 5: Restart the Router

  • After saving the configuration, restart the router.
  • Restart (NOT RESET!) allows the new settings to take effect.
  • You can restart from the admin panel or manually by turning the device off and on.

Step 6: Connection Test

  1. After restarting the router, check the internet connection:

  2. Open a browser and go to any website.

  3. You can also use the connection test available in the router's admin panel.
  4. If the page loads - the configuration was successful!
  5. In case of problems:

  6. Check the PPPoE login details.

  7. Make sure the router has an active WAN connection.
  8. The cable should be connected to the port labeled Internet (Blue).
